Basics of Cranial Sacral Massage Techniques

This class offers the therapist a variety of ways to help enhance and polish a traditional massage, including techniques to gently assess the body, comfort, and ground clients, based on many different teachings and philosophies.  Learn a gentle one-hour protocol using compressions and massage techniques, and/or incorporate the techniques into your traditional massage!

*This is not an Upledger Cranio Sacral class, though some hands-on techniques may be similar to Upledger’s, and some holds may mimic those in the practice of Reiki. The techniques are taught for comfort and relaxation only, and the notion that we can move cranial bones, feel/stop/start cerebral spinal fluid, feel “restrictions”, diagnose disease and disorder, feel and absorb energy, read peoples thoughts and minds, and treat trauma is not taught or supported in this class.

Continuing Education Instructor Teacher Training Course

This course is for individuals who wish to help and support licensed massage therapists further their education by teaching original classes with current, relevant information- that falls under the massage therapy scope of practice. The prospective continuing education teacher should have experience, knowledge, integrity, and most of all, a passion to pass along the information he or she is interested in teaching. This comprehensive course will teach the would-be CE Instructor everything that is needed to become an approved provider of continuing education through the NCBTMB.

Learning and teaching styles, what to expect in the classroom, how to deal with challenging students and disruptive behavior, how to deal with ethical dilemmas; defining roles, and creating boundaries, as well as how to effectively create and present a class (and everything in between!). This course does not help the participant create a specific class, nor does the participant need to have a specific class in mind to earn a certificate of completion - just a desire to become a CE Provider is all that is needed.  The course is taught on an individual basis.

A phone interview is mandatory for approval to participate in this course, and will answer all questions about scheduling the four, 6 - hour classes.  Participants are not required to hold a BCTMB to take this class.

*This class usually does not count for the continuing education credits needed for State licensing.  It does count for NCBTMB continuing education, and meets their requirements for a “teacher training program”.

Contact Lin at 717-271-6669 or lin@massageCEadvantage.com for a short phone interview, and to schedule your own private, individualized training sessions.

*This class can be taken in-person or via live webinar, or a combination of both (hybrid)!

Essentials of Oncology Massage: A 4 Day Foundational Course

This class welcomes both Massage Therapists and Estheticians!

Oncology massage is now recognized as a safe and recommended therapy to help manage symptoms brought on by cancer. Many health care facilities incorporate integrative medicine into their cancer programs, treatment and infusion centers. With proper training, skilled touch and confidence, massage therapists and estheticians can safely help a client manage discomfort, while working within their SOP, roles and boundaries of their profession. In this three-day comprehensive course, the focus is on what we CAN DO for those living with cancer or are in early remission, using safe techniques to not only touch someone physically, but spiritually and emotionally as well. Current information, precautions, contraindications, safety for the therapist, esthetician, and client, as well as medication guidelines are just some of the important considerations taught in this class. Techniques for lymphedema, neuropathy, scar tissue and gentle touch for the medically frail, as well as draping and positioning are demonstrated and practiced. Self-awareness exercises, ideas for self-care, guest speakers and discussions about personal experiences with cancer as well as demos and hands-on practice round out this four-day S4OM foundational course.

"I'm so excited to tell you that I have already used my oncology training. Had a patient come to the chiropractic office for a 60 minute massage and she checked yes in her medical history for cancer.
I was so excited that I didn't have to turn her away due to lack of education and I could explain the necessary modifications we needed to be able to have a safe massage.
It felt amazing knowing I have the correct knowledge to be able to help her safely. I cannot thank you enough for your class!" - Crystal H

*This class will be taught on Zoom the first two days, then in person the last two days.

Pharmacology for Massage Therapists

Massage therapists treat clients on a daily basis who are taking various types of prescribed and non-prescribed drugs. In many cases these medications affect body physiology in ways that make modifying massage treatment necessary, or, may contraindicate the massage treatment all together. If there is a drug in a client’s body, the therapist has to have the basic information about the impact it may have on the client’s responses to the treatment about to be given. Recognizing that drug therapy of any kind brings about physiologic and chemical changes in the body as well as that massage therapy also brings about these changes in the body, it is more than reasonable to explore these effects together. The knowledge that the effects of drug therapy may enhance/increase or disrupt/decrease the effect of massage can and should lead to changes in how we apply massage therapy in individual situations.
